Teachers celebrate their students that are persevering with passion in spite of any difficulties they might have. Corresponding award was given at the 2017 Fall Academic Awards Assembly held on November 8th.

when you fail at something you try again to get it right what is the word for when you show perseverance or determined to do something the word is great grit is defined as a passion to achieve long-term goals as well as mental toughness and courage it is the will to try again to do something better than before can you show grit in your personality you're showing the world that you won't give up until you achieve your goals will display grit and what we do we don't always realize it it takes resilience and a drive to keep on going when a task gets tough the willingness to do your best that is correct Modesto is a true example to all students of what it means to have perseverance or grit as a freshman and sophomore Modesto frequented administrator's office office and left his PHS his junior year at the end of his junior year he walked in my door to let me know he was returning for his senior year due to effects to my memory from chemo at first I not remember his name when I shared a headband out with cancer and apologize for not remembering his name I saw a compassionate side to Modesto that I had never experienced before Modesto has returned and is it exemplary student a member of FFA and a member of the cross country team he is polite and respectful and truly values his education I doubt Modesto knows how deeply his turnaround means to me I am so proud of him and expect even greater things from him when he leaves Porterville High School congratulations Modesto and thank you for being such a great example of grit Samantha Flores in my 3rd. PH class and she is a person who exemplifies amazing character daily her grit is most apparent in her personal obstacles that she has fought and overcome this year from the struggles she's become a person that is a ready to lend a helping hand is willing to support her peers and is always determined to make things her personal-best she Embraces our school's motto Pride on her strength daily and she continues to be an inspiration to me and others on campus when considering that grit is about perseverance and determination especially in the face of adversity Isaac a terrorist immediately came to my mind he shows up to class everyday alerts and in a pot good mood ready to tackle whatever task is put before him regardless of the obstacles he may be facing outside of the classroom his eagerness to learn makes him a positive model for many other students not only does he jumped right into Focus mode so takes leadership in his learning by making choices that will lead to success what did that is working with others or changing his extra-curricular schedule to allow more study time the fact that he can really make part of choices to put himself at an educational advance is one of the foremost qualities of someone with grits he's also a leader in the classroom and use often helping other students with their own understanding of Concepts and offering valuable inside to discuss he doesn't shy away from learning demonstrate strong intrinsic value in his educational experience Isaac is most deserving of this award because he has been able to face some of the hardest moments that anyone ever has to face which is especially strenuous for someone so young and buy through his tough experiences he has shown compassion kindness and consideration for others both in the classroom and in his life he seems to understand what an individual needs to hear in order to be their best and he brings that out and others in this way Isaac is wise-beyond-his-years Issacs teachers agree with me that Isaac has grit he is determined folk goal oriented and perseveres to a car precious goals and I have no doubt that he will continue to take the struggles that life gives him and turn them into fuel for the force that is Isaac cell accomplishes his goal he has learned to break down the barriers that try to keep him from reaching his dreams he knows that anything is attainable through hard work and dedication fell is passionate he does not let anything stand in his way he works ha and it's self-motivated he pushes himself to improve on a daily basis language is not a barrier for sale he challenges himself and takes on whatever comes his way George Hernandez is one of the most motivated students I have ever taught he is determined to do his best in class everyday he makes sure to pay attention to all directions and ask questions when he doesn't understand something to make sure he can complete the you know when I correct something he's willing to do it over so he knows he got it right whenever I am speaking to the class I know that if I look at him he will be looking at me listening and taking notes it is a great pleasure to teach such a hard-working student when there is a complicated assignment that is challenging George never gives up he keeps working on it until he has completed the assignment to the best of his ability I have never heard him complain about anything in school and he is always appreciated I help them I think his dedication to hard work and commitment to doing his best will make him successful in whatever he chooses to do in the future when he was a freshman it was not only his first year in high school but also my first year of the teacher over the past 4 years I have watched Arthur grow and mature into such a hard-working young man school is not something that comes as easily to Arthur as a best to others however Arthur is one of the hardest workers that I know whether it is on the football or baseball field or in a classroom Arthur never settles kids always pushing himself to be better at whatever it is kids doing it is because of these qualities that I nominate Arthur for the ward of panthers persevering with passion Kitty shows True Grit and can persevere through any obstacles she encounters she leads with wisdom compassion and strength she does not tolerate laziness that leads by example with a servant's heart and I both agree that she's like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day she has courage to live out her conviction is truly a representative of the pasmado always on duty Emma Bunch came to Porterville just three short years ago from out-of-state when her family was called to serve she too has a heart of service but this calling Forester to grow new Roots is a freshman in high school over the past three years she has really grown up but she is also established Roots here and manage to be a huge influence on others around her in the process she's not only survived but she is drived she's a devoted and trustworthy friend too many and willing to help though she doesn't even know she's shown real resolve and her willingness to become a panther and embrace the panther Pride for overcoming obstacles and maintaining her hope and positive attitude I nominate Emma bombs for this award Meghan Daly is an incredible example as a pahs motto always on duty she's always looking for ways to help others as a student student aid and pee representative Megan stands out as someone who goes above and beyond to be friendly encouraging supportive and kind but she notices someone not being included she goes out of her way to make them feel welcome she always has a smile on her face her friend she will go on to be a wonderful Medical Professional spreading compassion and Care on her journey thank you for making a difference Megan zinc has so much grit and you don't even see it behind the smile and everytime I turn around he's amazing me he comes in to talk about is not sure he can do it and I believe him I know how hard he's working at sports taking care of little brothers and sisters at home AP classes and we talked through it and I think we're going to cut back a little bit give him some breathing room and then the next time I check in with him he's got an A in an AP class he's doing community service and he's you're smiling I asked him about cutting back and he smiles and shakes his head and tells me he's got this I just can't be more proud of him he's such a determined man in sports when they talk about having heart and digging deep this kid has more heart and digs deeper than most kids I know thank you rock and this next year is going to be the best year yet I'm going to be your biggest cheerleader I can't wait Vanessa Garcia is a very driven young lady who is strong in her own face and personal resolve she is kind and considerate and truly has a heart of service she doesn't settle for average or mediocre in her work in her life I know the simply by coming to school each day she inspires those around her I am thankful for her grit her tenaciousness and her resolve I know that whatever she chooses to do in her future she will serve others with her compassion and generosity
