Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year.  This year we will explore Health in which we will learn about Nutrition, Physical Activity, Growth and Development, Injury Prevention, Safety, Alcohol, tobacco, other Drugs, Mental, Emotional, Social Health, Personal and Community Health.  In this class we will learn how to access vital information regarding a healthy lifestyle, effective communication skills, learning to make informative decisions and setting goal.  My goal is that all students in this class will come away understanding not only Health but to understand what is a healthy lifestyle and to make informative decisions throughout their lives.

We will also be exploring Health Careers with the PAHS students.  In this class we will look at various careers in the Health care industry, analyse the education requirements, college, funding, also looking at community health which will include research of diseases and putting together a pamphlet at the end of the course.  Students in this class will learn several "hands on skills" which will prepare them as they continue on their journey through the Academy.  Students will also learn "Hand-only CPR" which will also prepare them for certification in their junior year.

The Nurse Assistant Program is an intense program in which students gain valuable knowledge in the care of the Elderly.  This class is two semesters in which the first semester is classroom and skills based.  Students meeting all the state and federal requirements will then be placed in the clinical setting working along side of Nurses and CNAs applying their knowledge.  This class can lead to state certification if the student meets all requirements and is eligible to take the State Certification Examination.

It will be an exciting year and I look forward to this journey with your student.
