After being selected personally by Buck Shaffer to take over the reigns of the Porterville High School Panther Band and following in Buck’s larger-than-life footsteps for 27 years with his own legacy of greatness, it is only fitting that Jim Kusserow has now taken his rightful place alongside his mentor and other PHS greats with his own plaque on the Porterville High School Wall of Fame.

are you home give me how to speak now thank you good morning my name is today's Wall of Fame ceremony mr. Jim khusro why are you stupid very very deserving of she is truly made the panther community very very proud with all of its accomplishment and under the leadership mini mini spectacular seeds of happiness patience is required when I read this lips 25 years California music educator Anonymous Superior rating better not apply for Virginia 4th of July 10th show parade Danville one room for 26 years performing at the Hillcrest Cemetery on Memorial Day 26 years of Marching In the Veterans Day Parade fixed East Coast tours in Hawaii in 2017 not only that you have to go fun ways to send all the the band KISS so again that's huge congratulations to you play concert at Kennedy Center constitutional Hall Arlington National Cemetery World War II Memorial Lincoln Center and help me on this one mr20 cuz I know me to mess it up Boston Faneuil Hall spell Pavilion Pavilion so huge places he's been gone for that great job and keep in mind I'm only talking about things he did with the awesome obviously he did more with the family or not going to get into that class before 5 this evening who is truly a legend I know if we called it a lot of smiles and he thinks it's funny he truly does have the respect of everyone on campus and you said no because I want you guys to look at it I want who wants to go to know that you know even though as far as his physical size wasn't very big I can tell you he had the respect of everyone on campus we have a lot of coaches here Christian some of our kids on the panther bed or also play in athletic competition and I could tell you that all these big strong you know coaches at things are muscular and so on and so forth they always check double check with Lisa Kudrow to make sure that the fender man wasn't practicing that easy in the competition to mess with that guy wanted nothing to do with it scared of Lisa Kudrow and on top of that they expected it to the almost they never wanted them in the wrong manner because we always knew were they ranked in comparison to him and they always rank below him again this is very very I think the world of you I'm very happy for you but I'm sad for us in case oh congratulations again it is my pleasure to have the alarm will be today's mcr105 from Interstellar at this time I'd ask you to please can remove your hat and I musical Department performed the national anthem I need the flag should be on here Ohio are there a cube Raptor pretty good program there jump thank you mr. cell that was my time to welcome you for the president of the Alumni Association birth control laws you for not being members we need your help now the wall of fame and are scholarships about all we can afford and we could sure use your help okay that's the end of that I want you to see this or not call it a 20 cages I want to start out with a personal note I thought you were portable high for 35 years and also always heard the legend about you I love those bakeries in the bank veterans organization I would he was my teacher I love them to death and I missed you I'm out here right by where the wall of fame is one day and I said I have to say something to you you know you're special and one of the best ever you got I hope you realize that everybody knows that he said thank you very much very how can I say something not impose any kind of way that's what we're here for do exercise I do want to read higher than a football high school when I first joined DHS in the 1994 with the band director and a great one at that what are you driving to be at my office one day let me know he's going to try I was a little surprised. the word is the same time portal high school was known for great music programs and replacing the legend I thought and impossibility movie Expectations vs. however but I'd recommend at the recommendation for me so when. School bands all the time small band medium size large band to Bonnie Fan Wind Ensemble anyway when I want to get to hear such a pizza I heard you're about 3 or 4 years ago I think it's been two or three years ago and I heard it was about animals fighting weather in Kamas Ranger named Eric Whitacre until I heard this band two or three times and heard the Panther band Player the difference was hate I was told emotionally involved that piece of the panther panther and I had to write an article about it because anybody who can pull that emotion and that caliber music special Victor what did that 27 and a half years of age religion last time shows and that excitement if you're near some people don't they Bactroban right here I congratulate Mr khusro homosexual Wall of Fame today and it's most definitely deserve it thank you for your attention and thank you all games that I did not leave from 25 pages of the John Philip Sousa Foundation Legion of Honor 2010 first that sounds like a the high school alumni association for this incredible honor I wasn't sure what he was referring to and anyway I read the very kind article on the recorder written by former band member drum major former student of mine and current band parent Mathews arm Raspberry Pi rain gratifying for your hard work and dedication in front of you is going to be recognized but there was one mistake in the article we did not get a superior rating every year there was one year where I program 3 College little pieces so we didn't quite get there you could have been a week later I don't know the tremendous amount that you are you at watching my older brother Bill perform in the Panthers to do bands and I always wanted to be like him I remember one evening when Smoky air and he played a trombone solo and I'm George Gershwin medley that was written specifically for the studio Band by  Jones and Shinnston West Virginia I wanted to do that and as lucky as he and I we got that opportunity again Bill borrowed a trumpet for me from the train King March and I started playing for Gerald honest and exist in the Terra Bella Elementary School band weather either in the nickname for carabella's your Tigers now much more promoting animal we were the Terriers Advanced spread rapidly with my brothers helping her mother who is now 99 years Young take me to the bathroom and room to show bug taper what I did to you I learn how to play Sugar Blues by listening to the studio band album you sitting here behind the desk up those chairs and and he looked at me and he said star Edition live meter to meet trying to be your best I attended PHS from 1972 to 1976 the band room was My Sanctuary when I got in trouble in chemistry class I knew I could go to the band room after and after a good talking-to I could stay there Billy Shaffer was in the band with me by son and that he had a name for a private meeting with 5 for some reason would call the q9 I got my share of denies they were some of the best learning moment to my life I remained in the studio band for 2 years affordable college and also continue to help out even going on tour begin teaching I'm going for Larry I continue to learn from Buster and bite her in the early years teaching music and even after I was hired in the summer of 1992 be the next band director here affordable high it was really mean to me when I asked him it always was right we didn't get into the Hollywood Christmas parade my first year and so I've looked at San Francisco Chinese New Year parade in February one week before my birthday and not smart anyway but the doors one problem with San Francisco rain in about a 90-degree angle into the band the banner girls were getting into their most aerodynamic position just to make it down the street without getting blown backwards we will return we picked up those uniforms and store them in the plastic bag Boston uniforms where to in shorter they don't have to in 8000 dollar mistake I think land with without without sleep for 2 weeks trying to make those uniforms presentable her for my first concert shaver chose to come to Portugal and I feel so fortunate that I would to attend this great school and gaming experience they could not be duplicated anywhere in the world the band chair gave me the opportunity to perform at world-class events around the United States and Canada so many amazing sites right here in our country and performance did I didn't realize what a big deal the state department the national Press Club Rams football game 1976 us Bicentennial celebration and military bases face was all over the country when I was young I didn't comprehend how fortunate I was Well I obviously cannot be the same as my mentor I tried to take the qualities that helped mold good citizens from back and combine that with my ideas and I've been fortunate to have been given the opportunity to share that with thousands of kids the doors of the band room I'm thankful to The District administration to CHS principles and the staff at CHS for being so supportive of my efforts over the years has been very helpful especially in weed on a big trip and they really pitched to help with the big fundraising and I always really appreciated that the parents of students have been great supporter throughout the years many had fun Schaefer as a teacher but no one ever came to me and comparative or syr philosophy was the weight I think they realize it was he have your work and it's best to leave a thing to work alone many of you will think of the Will Rogers if it ain't broke don't fix it line there's one as instrumental in my success is Jefferson is the most organized lady I've ever met after a few years I think she can read my mind because when I would ask her about a task invariably the reply would be it's already done all the Colts remember radar from the match TV show that's kind of how it was around here of course I'm referring to Lynn Enid who has dedicated more time to disband program than I could imagine she had worked tirelessly to see that all of the behind-the-scenes thing they have to get done in a large operations like this do in fact it done busting roomless Awards tickets posters and taking 100% care of the auxiliary and all of the issues pertaining to all of these lovely describe my appreciation and thanks for the extraordinary Health that Lynn gave the bands during my career where is she Sarah Durham Sarah ways German Hanson travel ideas former band parent the joy of playing at her daughter's wedding Turtle Bay on the Northern end of January Berger's hardware store & BBQ at Town & Country Market cars are some of the people are some of the people huge difference in the program here at from the affordable High School in this year my wife Kelly and my other two children my a Christopher and Caitlin are both gainfully employed Chico and Kayla and I think was working in Fresno today and I would like to thank them for the tremendous support and and help if they've given me I'm going to take a second to see if they've been cool. give me a second if I back up for you I know Brevard paper I know okay here we go DP I just mentioned a Barbara Gary can't answer the impact on our ability to take Insignia East Coast tours and one Hawaii tour with 152 over 200 people it's amazing the support that we receive could not have been able to do the great things we did without the help and support of these and other many other community businesses and citizens how's the weather Kelly been on my side for almost 29 years cheated the majority of the raising of our children while I was doing night practices going in early staying late playing in the symphony going on towards Etc she's always been a Shining Light Franklin our family and I can't figuring out for the year and I have shared our children are all doing well and they're enjoying our lives that we cherry pie thank all of you for the love and support that you've given me throughout the years almost done you're too young to retire my sophomore English teacher told me that I said I'm going to be the next band director here at PHS Richard Clark Steel 2 is now the Fine Young Band record he just told me the same thing I don't know if you remember this but I do I think you said something like when you're finished I should be able to just slide right in there I'm so thankful that that is exactly what has happened but your queue will bring new ideas to the program a you pull up Rose and the band is in great hands I've been working with him did I am not too my patience is not what it used to be and I can still hear reasonably well I've been president two of my has two of my grandchildren. Their first pitch and I look forward to many more memories like that I'm just the right age thank you again for the alumni association for this incredible honor and I'm a panther forever or a buck often said once a panther always a panther DIY on my way obviously have to go back to class you can meet us out with whatever you have planned and I'm going to invite everyone to though unveiling at the wall of fame writing south of the administration building itself included
