ELD Advanced + Academic Support (Period 2)

Course Description

This course is for the student who has surpassed CELDT 1-2 levels, but still lacks full fluency, showing some weaknesses in language skills.   The course follows the California English Language Development Standards (Expanding and Bridging Levels) to prepare students for college, career, and civic readiness.  The students are active participants that must:
  • engage in productive oral and written group work with peers
  • participate in effective oral and written interactions with teachers
  • explain and demonstrate their knowledge using emerging complex language and other communicative strategies in different settings
  • extract meaning from complex written texts.  
 
Students create, design, formulate, modify, plan, propose, and take risks in practicing the rigorously stressed skills of Listening/Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Language.  SDAIE scaffolding is provided, and Kagan strategies are provided for increased engagement and learning.
