Welcome to English 2!
I am so excited about working with you this year. Whether you are in English II Composition or Honors, you are in a rigorous course designed to prepare you for both English III and life beyond high school. You’ll learn skills in reading critically and writing analytically, and you’ll also learn about yourself, the world, and your place within it.
My hope for you this year is that you will learn how to think, not to regurgitate. The literature and activities in this course are chosen to provide you with a springboard from which you can connect with others in a community of learners and thinkers, and from which you can get to know yourself (and create yourself) better during this formative time in your life as a citizen of the world. My goal is that you become stronger writers, thinkers, and analysts, and that you amaze yourself with your hard work and intellectual risk-taking.

About Me
My favorite literary forms and genres are historical non-fiction, historical fiction, magical realism, and drama. A few of my favorite works include The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank, The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Diaz, Tis, by Frank McCourt, Wit, by Margaret Edson, Antigone, by Sophocles, and Like Water for Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel. I believe that to read literature is to learn about the human condition, as literary works depicting various cultures, peoples, and times show us that even though we are a diverse human race, we are connected by our universal basic needs, desires, and motivations.
